Dyslexia Screening Assessment (age 7+)

Dyslexia Screening Assessment

Our dyslexia screening assessment offers a tailored evaluation of a child's reading and language skills to identify potential dyslexia. The specific tests used during the assessment will be selected based on the areas of difficulty highlighted in the background questionnaire. Not all the tests below will be done however, information on what can be expected is noted below:

  1. Customised Testing: The assessment will focus on key areas, including verbal ability, visual/non-verbal ability, phonological memory, phonological awareness, processing speed, and single-word reading. Prose reading, comprehension, free writing, or handwriting will only be assessed if highlighted as a concern and would usually take place in a full diagnostic assessment.
  2. Verbal and Visual Assessments: We will select appropriate tests to assess the ability to deduce relationships between words and solve visual problems, offering insights into the child's verbal and visual reasoning abilities.
  3. Phonological Skills: Phonological memory and awareness will be evaluated, as these are critical for developing reading and writing proficiency.
  4. Reading Proficiency: The focus will primarily be on single-word reading, which is essential for identifying reading difficulties. Reading comprehension tasks will only be included if specifically flagged in the background questionnaire.
  5. Spelling: We may include spelling assessments if relevant to the child’s challenges, focusing on single-word spelling to evaluate their written language skills.
  6. Personalized Recommendations: After the assessment, you will receive detailed, individualised recommendations based on the results, with onward referrals provided if necessary.

Please note: This screening is not a diagnostic service. For a comprehensive diagnosis, we recommend booking our 'SpLD (Dyslexia) Assessment (age 8+)'.

Our dyslexia screening is designed to offer valuable insights, tailored support, and clear next steps for both parents and educators.
